who is the artist?

Violet (Violet Frost) Johnston is an aspiring physician and medical illustrator studying studio art and biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Beginning in early 2024, Violet began creating illustrations for her lab, Duke University’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Translational Research Lab, under the inspiration and mentorship of her PI and lab associates. Ever since, Violet has pursued her passion for making anatomy come alive via art.

Violet has had the opportunity to shadow cardiothoracic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, and the University of Minnesota. She will continue to observe and transcribe surgical processes into informative pictograms.
